January 15, 2009--AAEOP Hosts Open House for Fund-raising Event

From 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., you can drop in to the conference room (downstairs) at the Administrative Annex (502 4th Street Northeast, Auburn) to see the newest products in Tupperware's line, purchase items (some display items will be available for cash-and-carry sales), and order from the new Tupperware catalog.  Orders will be delivered about two weeks after purchase.

AAEOP is sponsoring this fundraiser to earn money for scholarhips, professional development, and the AAEOP emergency fund.  Refreshments will be served, non-AAEOP members are welcome!  Cash, checks, Visa, Mastercard, and/or Discover cards are acceptable forms of payment for orders.  Invite someone to attend the open house with you--share this information with friends, family members, neighbors, co-workers, etc.  Hope to see you there!

January 15, 2009--NAEOP PSP Filing Deadline

Recertify, apply for, or update a PSP (Professional Standards Program) certificate by this date to be recognized in the NES Connector.  Application information is available from Marilyn Wiegand or at the NAEOP website.

February 2009--King County Elections Goes Mail-in

Beginning in February 2009, there will be no poll places for voting--all King County elections will be done by mail-in ballot.  If you have been using an "absentee" ballot to vote, there will be no change for you.  If you have been going to a polling location to vote, you will need to verify information (name and address) with King County Elections.  You may make a request for an absentee ballot by clicking here and going to the online site for King County Elections.

Your vote counts!  Remember to vote in all elections.

February 1, 2009--Deadline to Submit WAEOP Scholarship and/or Award Nominations

Information about available scholarships and awards, and application forms are available on the WAEOP website.

February 13, 2009--Auburn Youth Resources Announces 18th Annual Fundraising Breakfast

For the fourth year, Arlista Holman is once again offering a generous opportunity for ten AAEOP members to attend the Auburn Youth Resources Valentines Day Breakfast at no cost to members or the association.  Because of Arlista's big-hearted contribution to AYR, AAEOP will be listed as one of the proud sponsors of this special event.

AAEOP, as an association and as individual members, has a strong commitment to students and families in the school district community.  Our members support programs, events, and activities that improve and enrich the lives of students (and their families) throughout the community and Arlista Holman's leadership in this area is exemplary.

If you wish to be seated at the AAEOP table at the ARY Valentines Day Breakfast (Friday, February 13, at 7 a.m.), at the Grace Community Church, contact Paulette Sebolboro by clicking her name or calling 253-931-4995.  Remember. . . only ten people can be seated at the AAEOP table!  Contact Paulette right away if you are interested in attending this fundraising breakfast and representing AAEOP.

If you are not able to attend, yet would like to make a donation to Auburn Youth Resources (tax deductable) or purchase a raffle ticket, contact Arlista Holman.

February or March 2009--Legal Issues in Schools Part 2

Curtis Leonard did a great job of presenting Legal Issues in Schools during the October waiver day.  From that presentation everyone learned there is more learning to be done and there are more questions to be answered.  Jonna May is working with Curtis to firm up details for part two!  Watch for date, time, and location information on this website.

April 1, 2009--Deadline to Submit Nomination Packets for AAEOP Awards and Scholarships

AAEOP awards student and member scholarships in addition to supporting scholarship programs offered by WAEOP, NAEOP, and PSE.  If you would like to apply for an AAEOP member scholarship or nominate a student for an AAEOP scholarship, please request a nomination packet from one of the people listed below.  Students who are nominated for an AAEOP scholarship are eligible to be considered for an affiliate-sponsored scholarship at the state (WAEOP) and/or national (NAEOP) level.

Deyanna King (association co-president)
Debbie Strand (association co-president)
Loretta Kingsolver (scholarship committee chair)

In recognition of outstanding service and support of classified personnel, specifically educational office professionals, AAEOP members are encouraged to nominate an administrator for the Educational Administrator-of-the-Year Award.  Debbie Leighton and Vicki Alonzo are past recipents of this award.  Contact Deyanna King or Debbie Strand for application information.

Recognizing the superior accomplishments and contributions of colleagues is gratifying and certainly affords members an opportunity to strive for the level of professionalism required by this recognition.  Deyanna King was the first recipient of AAEOP's award recognizing the outstanding contribution, achievements, and/or support provided to the professional association.  Laurali Larson received the award in 2008.  The Educational Office-Professional-of-the-Year Award is designed to shine the spotlight on an office professional in the Auburn School District who is a positive role model who exemplifies professionalism; involvement in local, state, and/or national association activities; and life-long learning.  For information about this award, or a nomination packet, contact Deyanna King or Debbie Strand.

Many thanks to Diana Cruz, WAEOP website creator and manager, for assisting with the AAEOP site.  Diana continues to be valued resource to AAEOP's site manager!  Her expertise earned her top billing in the 2006 competition for excellence-in-communication (web site) through the National Association of Educational Office Professionals.  Great going Diana!  You can view some of Diana's work at the WAEOP site and at the Clark County Quilters' site.
