Thank you for visiting the Auburn Association of Educational Office Professionals website! AAEOP is the professional association that provides support, recognition, leadership, service, and educational opportunities for educational office professionals in the Auburn School District. AAEOP raises funds to award at least four scholarships annually, and provide continuing education opportunities for members.
AAEOP is affiliated with WAEOP and NAEOP (the Washington and National Association of Educational Office Professionals). For purposes of negotiating contractual issues with the Auburn School District, AAEOP has engaged the expert services of Public School Employees (PSE) of Washington.
AAEOP Says, "Welcome Back," to Auburn Farmers Market
The second season of the Auburn Farmers Market kicked off June 13. The market features at least 35 vendors (offering a variety of locally grown foods, hand-crafted items, and more), performances, activities for children, and guest chef appearances. Click here for a schedule of opening-day events.
The Auburn Farmers Market is located just north of the Sound Transit parking garage (in Auburn). The market will be open from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., Sundays, through September.
Continuing Education--A Priority for AAEOP
The association and its members place high value on life-long learning. The professional development workshop committee arranges training for members (often non-members are welcome to attend) throughout the year; however, one of the greatest statements about our belief in continuing education is through the scholarships we award annually.
Fundraising activities, along with direct contributions, make it possible for AAEOP to award four student scholarships and one member scholarship each year. Contact Pam (253-931-4938) or Cris (253-931-4990) for information about upcoming fundraising events and/or to make a donation to the scholarship/continuing education fund.
Growing Professionally and Personally with AAEOP
For AAEOP members, professional involvement and development may mean serving on a committee or as an officer, taking a class, or attending a workshop, meeting, or AAEOP social function. Regardless of which of these things matches the member's definition of involvement, that person is encouraged to consider that whether or not they have made a step on the journey to professional development this year or not, and they can take a step today! Members may look at the list of opportunities being offered by AAEOP (and/or WAEOP and NAEOP) and decide what action to take to be actively involved in these professional associations. It is never too late to "put your best foot forward" and AAEOP members are encouraged to be a member of the state and national professional associations. Check out news and upcoming events (or the recap of recent events) to see how AAEOP members are involved in the associations established exclusively for educational office professionals.
NAEOP (National Association of Educational Office Professionals) is the “top of the line” national organization established specifically for educational office professionals (school secretaries) throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Membership in this association is significant of your true professionalism. NAEOP was founded as the National Association of School Secretaries. NAEOP paved the way by making a name change that reflected not only a change in times, but more accurately recognized the level of professionalism of employees in educational offices. Benefits of NAEOP membership include:
-
car rental discounts,
-
various insurances,
-
the quarterly NAEOP Magazine,
-
an opportunity for scholarships (member, dependent, and student),
-
enrollment in the Professional Standards Program (PSP),
-
awarding of PSP certificates,
-
workshop and conference opportunities, and
-
a networking system that spans the U.S. and Canada.
In order to apply and qualify for the PSP program, membership in NAEOP is required. Membership in NAEOP is only $45 a year. For this fee, new members receive a $1,000 dismemberment insurance policy, for the first year, with the option for the member to renew the policy on their own (at his/her expense).
WAEOP (Washington Association of Educational Office Professionals) was organized over 50 years ago by school district secretaries who wanted their own PROFESSIONAL association. Over the years, WAEOP has grown significantly and has changed in a number of ways (including changing the association name from Washington Association of Educational Secretaries).
The state-level association offers several learning events throughout the year--members choose from Spring Conference Leadership Training, or one of several Professional Development Program workshops offered throughout the state. PDP workshops are generally hosted by an area director (Auburn is in area 7, Deyanna King was elected to serve as the WAEOP Area 7 Director). Area directors host at least one workshop in their area annually and it is nice to be able to attend a WAEOP-sponsored workshop close to home. The local and state executive board and professional development committee leaders welcome ideas for PDP workshops. If you would like to make a suggestions for an educational offering in area 7, contact Deyanna King.
Educational office professionals may become a member of the state-level professional association for only $35 per year. Go to the WAEOP website to download a membership form. When submitting your membership form, indicate that you were referred through the AAEOP website.
